Exchange Invest 2410 Weekend Edition: Sri Lankan Eco Meltdown?
From Drone squadrons to how green haste killed the Sri Lankan economy as Haitian civilisation struggles & more…
Exchange Invest is a unique information resource combining the day’s stories in a newsletter for investors in exchanges/financial markets infrastructure.
Exchange Invest was founded by former exchange CEO and author of the first bestselling book of fintech (“Capital Market Revolution!” FT 1999) Patrick L Young. Monday through Friday our daily paid subscriber email discusses the business of bourses of all kinds across the world.
This weekly edition is a magazine of broader macro topics as well as including our free weekly podcast which reviews the highlights of the week in the world’s market structure.
On this day in 1997, in Britain the government announced that tuition fees would be imposed for the first time on all college students.
From Exchange Invest 2407: 20th, July 2022: Wednesday
The UK Royal Air Force attracted some ridicule last week for having a drone squadron which actually has no drones.
Yet again the blob finds a topic where you couldn’t make it up and private sector fiction writers would be ridiculed if they attempted to. 216 squadron has 4 full time personnel and presumably a few aircraft kits they hold while making swooping moves through the air and going “dao dao dao dao dao dao” as is apparently the new decentralized pronunciation of the sound drone bombs make.
That said at least the UK’s absence of execution involves rather high tech failures as opposed to those crack German troops who turn up for NATO exercises armed with broomsticks in place of rifles. The Defence Minister during that farago is of course now President of the EU, Mrs Von Der Leyen.

Podcasts This Week
PLY: Very interesting “Chinese Whispers” podcast presented by Cindy Yu discussing China’s relative lack of semi conductor knowhow.
Inside The ICE House
As always, a review of interesting reading to provoke thoughts and consideration… Not sure we agree with much of it….but it’s thought-provoking!
PLY: A magnificent insight from the perma-thoughtful Lord Ridley, explaining how (as ignored by the MSM) the collapse of Sri Lanka’s economy is in many ways a salutary tale of the haste to green endorsement being a road to national penury.
PLY: The Haitian meltdown is horrific and yet barely mentioned in mainstream media.
