Exchange Invest Weekend: 11th Sept.
Exchange Invest is a unique information resource combining the day’s stories in a newsletter for investors in exchanges/financial markets infrastructure.
Exchange Invest was founded by former exchange CEO and author of the first bestselling book of fintech (“Capital Market Revolution!” FT 1999) Patrick L Young. Monday through Friday our daily paid subscriber email discusses the business of bourses of all kinds across the world.
This weekly edition is a magazine of broader macro topics as well as including our free weekly podcast which reviews the highlights of the week in the world’s market structure.

On this day in 2001, our markets were shaken, our resolve was tested but the parish of exchanges was unified in grief for our colleagues lost to the abomination of terrorism. US markets found themselves forced to shut due to the unfortunate positioning of cables beneath the World Trade Centre as well as aerials and satellites on top of the building.
Until that day 911 was just a beautiful Porsche design (ironically that number arose as a rebrand due to Peugeot legal threats). It’s not unreasonable to say 0911 changed the world in many ways. It was an attack on the right of every decent law-abiding human being to go to work, to earn a living, to seek a better future for their family and participate in the American dream. The victims came from every walk of life, from countless nations across the world. Today, it’s hard to believe it’s 20 years since 2977 people perished at the hands of fundamentalist terrorists.
Investment is not often seen as a cause for liberty but when the US markets reopened on September 17th, it sent a clear sign that just as they had failed at LSE, the Baltic Exchange, the WTC previously and elsewhere, terrorism will not stop our markets representing the pulse of commerce at the core of humanity.
RIP to all those from the cleaners to the firemen to the support staff and dealers as well as the passengers caught in this ugly act 20 years ago today.
