Big World
From Exchange Invest 2167: 30th, September 2021: (Thursday)
That elastic trickery thingie which is at the epicentre of powering almost everything including even many cars nowadays, is in short supply.
It’s hard to point to one single point which has provoked the latest energy crisis but there are issues across the globe. In the PRC (China’s power shortage turns dire as traffic lights fail, homes fall dark) fingers point to coal prices as one factor. Over half of the 31 mainland provincial jurisdictions are now rationing power leading to some irritation qv: Which is to blame for China’s power supply crisis — coal shortage, or Beijing? as the worst Chinese energy shortage in over a decade terrifies Chinese SMEs.
Meanwhile UK media managed to whip up a storm which provoked a petrol shortage this week which as I noted previously is an ideal test run of how things will look from the mud huts of the home counties once Boris’ green agenda really kicks in.
Ahead of winter, Europe has acute issues — the Russians aren’t sending sufficient gas to replenish European supplies and the useless Mrs Merkel has ceded energy security through a series of her bizarre decisions (closing nuclear plants, snubbing Ukraine in favour of Russian pipelines etc). The EU has failed to think ahead. Plus ca change.
There has been a clear failure of that textbook oxymoron “government thinking.” Things may become much chillier before they get better this winter.
