On this day in 1904, St. Louis opened its doors to the world for what was officially called the “Louisiana Purchase Exposition,” but was widely known as the St. Louis World’s Fair.
The fair lasted 7 months and inspired the phrase “Meet Me in St. Louis.” The temperatures in St. Louis soared and hot-tea vendor Richard Blechynden began pouring his tea over ice, thus achieving the invention of iced-tea. The fair also popularized the all-American hamburger, sausage in a bun, the hot dog with prepared mustard and the ice cream cone.

I know little of the breakaway statelet of Somaliland, 17X larger than Kosovo but lacking that critical multi-governmental recognition of the latter. Without significant foreign aid, the republic which broke away from Somalia over 30 years ago, maintains a rather elementary GDP level.
The economy was further impacted on the eve of Ramadan when a fire swept through the Waaheen market at the centre of Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. Some 5000 small businesses were affected and the impact on national GDP may be as much as 20%.

From SMEs to Cannabis Power Player
As CEO of the Canadian Securities Exchange since July 2011, Richard Carleton has positioned the exchange to take a leading role in the provision of public capital to entrepreneurial companies.
Since 2014, the CSE has set a series of records for new listings, capital raised by issuers and trading turnover in the competitive Canadian marketplace. An early advocate for the cannabis industry, CSE is the global exchange leader in the sector. Financial Post Magazine recognised Richard as one of Canada’s “25 Cannabis Industry Power Players.”

EI WEEKLY PODCAST
We’ve got a Caribbean vibe as we’re recording outside from the “beautiful by nature” Turks and Caicos Islands. In the world of bourses charges laid in the holy hoax fiasco, DB1 post shockingly good results, and the IMF rebuke the LME.
20 years on from the first fintech bestseller “Capital Market Revolution!”… “Victory Or Death” is a must read book for anyone interested in the intersection of Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and FinTech as part of the whole future of finance.
I think we’re going post-Covid, and thus will retire this section from its weekly recurrence — having successfully predicted the 2-year trajectory of the virus way back when the meeja was losing its mind and illuminated when hysteria was promulgating a mega plague, I think this column has elegantly served its purpose.
As things stand, Europe is gradually opening, the US is fighting its prescient judiciary but reopening and so is the Caribbean. China lags, having started the whole process but I suspect the Covid 19 section will only be periodic in its inclusion going forward…
As always, a review of interesting reading to provoke thoughts and consideration… Not sure we agree with much of it….but it’s thought-provoking!
Instead of being traded on stock exchanges, they change hands on third-party trading platforms such as Forge Global, Carta, and Nasdaq Private Market.
The Royal Gazette
A Caribbean leader struck a blow against the world’s most powerful countries — those that control what she warned is a flawed global anti-money laundering regime — during a multilateral meeting attended by the Premier, David Burt.
PLY: Not sure I am quite grasping the point here…
South China Morning Post
PLY: As a former motoring correspondent, I always made a point of actually driving the cars concerned, something which appears to have escaped Boris Johnson.
PLY: H/T to Ann Berg, a very thought provoking analysis.
