“PLY” Meets Patrick Young!

Patrick Young on a mission to improve financial literacy — and no. it’s not “PLY” but a namesake with similar aims!

Patrick is Director for the New Orleans Mayor’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The OGVP is the backbone of the city’s efforts to work with New Orleanians to create peace and prevent gun violence.

Prior to working with the Mayor, he served the New Orleans Business Alliance as Director of Training, managing the STRIVE work readiness training program. Operating across four opportunity centers in the city of New Orleans, Patrick helped employ over 890 formerly incarcerated persons in less than 3 years.

As Founder and Executive Director of “SharpMen” Patrick helped men overcome barriers to employment and was selected as a WK Kellogg Foundation Fellow for his proven leadership and dedication to improving the city of New Orleans.

And now Patrick is the author of his first book, “A WAY UP, Economic Development Post Incarceration” — a strategy toolkit for individuals with barriers in financial literacy and access to resources because of a conviction.

City Of London Grandee’s Collection Of Barometers Goes Up For Sale

Financial Times

I covered the demise last year of Sir Nicholas Goodison, the polyglot visionary chairman of the LSE who was a capital market revolutionary before I was in short trousers. Now, his family are selling his collection of barometers — of the weather, not stock market variety. As noted in his obituary, he was the author of the definitive English Barometers 1680–1860 in 1968.

COVID-19

Traditional Medicine Has Role In Virus Fight

South China Morning Post

PLY: In essence Covid is done and dusted — fully endemic — in the parts of the world where they went on with herd immunity and / or mass vaccination. The notion of vaccination every few months in the rich world is perplexing the UK NHS and many others — which shockingly puts me in agreement with the disastrously incompetent UK health monolith for once.

Fortunately, travel is opening up and while I know it’s not a fun thing to suffer from, the reality is Covid is endemic — time to live with it…and all within the 24 month window I was able to outline 2 years ago thanks to keeping a cooler head than most and just following the statistics and science even as a non expert on either.

The Decline Of Long-Term Investing

Visual Capitalist

PLY: I might be open to suggestion that we are actually witnessing the decline of Visual Capitalist as it appears to have either run out of imagination, or just become addicted to sponsorship dollars…perhaps both. At the same time, perhaps the elephant in the (stock holding) room is the way investment managers appear to be heading towards ADHD more than buy-hold, to justify their bonuses? (& no I don’t mean Terry Smith, clearly).
