Exchange Invest Weekend Edition 2763: Vulcan Vigour
Revolutionising mortgages, Bosnia at a(nother) crossroads, Chinese money harms LatAm, of Rishi’s origins and Vulcan Vigour…
Exchange Invest is a unique information resource combining the day’s stories in a newsletter for investors in exchanges/financial markets infrastructure.
Exchange Invest was founded by former exchange CEO and author of the first bestselling book of fintech (“Capital Market Revolution!” FT 1999) Patrick L Young. Monday through Friday our daily paid subscriber email discusses the business of bourses of all kinds across the world.
On this day in 2008, the financial crisis of 2007–08 was approaching peak panic levels as US institutions crumbled and banks were failing all the way to Iceland and beyond…
IN BIGWORLD
From Exchange Invest 2761: Thursday, September 14th:
Coco Gauff completed a magnificent run to her maiden Grand Slam tournament at the US Open last weekend resplendent in a fabulous pure play ‘Barbiecore’ outfit to celebrate at the prizegiving.
…Which allows me a final warning: A topic only Exchange Invest has been tackling but it’s the biggest commodity squeeze we will see this year: In little over a month the global ‘pink’ squeeze will be writ large ahead of Halowe’en when the cupboards go pinkless, panic will rebound across global suburbia. All those parishioners with daughters, girlfriends, female partners and wives need to be acutely aware this is not just a classic commodity squeeze, this commodity shortage will come complete with a full on indoor human hurricane alert. Tantrums with excessive wind shear and speeds of category 5 are anticipated to make landfall even if you live nowhere near a coast or panhandle.

FINANCE BOOK OF THE WEEK
In response to reader’s queries, we have added a book of the week column to the EI weekend edition — You can sign up for EI Weekend for free at ExchangeInvest.com incidentally.
We’re choosing interesting books pertaining to exchanges and markets, investment et al.
This week’s featured finance book of the week is our biased staff choice! It holds a very special place not only because it was authored by our founder Patrick L. Young’, but because it originated from our Exchange Invest Newsletter. The Exchange Invest 1000, or EI1000, serves as an index showcasing the world’s most influential figures in market structure, encompassing exchanges and clearing houses. This index relies on specialized algorithms developed by PLY.
The publication includes about 30 sub-lists, covering various categories like regional leaders, women, and experts in “Dealmakers,” “Visionaries,” “Blockchain,” “FinTech,” and more.

BITCARNAGE
In Bitcarnage this week, Binance said everything was even more cushty than usual despite an outage, some resignations and so forth — and who are we to disbelieve them? Elsewhere the crypto community was a mixture of whingeing as usual in most parts with many emulating Violet Elizabeth Bott from the Just William Books with her catchphrase “I’ll thcream and thcream ‘till I’m thick”
The big news of the week was that the CFTC pre-empted IOSCO with a move which effectively kills DeFi — which we have said was inevitable for years.
Meanwhile it’s now 4 against one in the SBF trial as Ryan Salame forfeiting a vast swathe of tony AirBnB haven Lenox Massachusetts while headline of the week was the 11196 year sentenced for fraud handed down to former Thodex CEO Faruk Fatih Özer. Some might say he was lucky, prosecutors wanted him to serve 40,562 years!
If you enjoyed this excerpt you may be interested to know that you can read Bitcarnage every day in Exchange Invest.

PLY: A brilliant article which breaks down the egregious cost — $8000 per application…which ICE can surely reduce to basis points and still profit handsomely. The resulting vertical is most impressive post acquisition of Black Knight and as we know, ICE integration is always state of the art, for any sector, not just the exchange parish.

PLY: I gave a keynote speech at the Sarajevo Stock Exchange annual conference some years ago, staying in perhaps the world’s most infamous Holiday Inn. The hotel had been built for the 1983 Winter Olympics and immortalised as the media hangout of the major foreign correspondents like the magnificent John Simpson (BBC) during the siege of the City from 1992–1996 situated on “sniper alley.” Anyway my scenic view was of a carp park groaning with hundreds of UN vehicles — armoured cars, SUV, trucks and limousines et al, each in glacier white festooned with UN decals. This was all part of what was a dystopian UN mandate to make Sarajevo appear the coherent capital of a coherent state. Judging from this article, things have deteriorated from even this fragile state of affairs, alas.

Farnborough Airshow — 1955

PLY: I loved this — partly because I find Vulcan bombers fascinating. A great read btw is: Vulcan 607 — how a squadron flew half way around the world so one of them could bomb the Argentine occupied runway at Port Stanley in the Falklands. An incredible last hurrah for an amazing aircraft. Anyway way back when this amazing delta wing aircraft was new: “At the sixteenth Farnborough Airshow, in September 1955, Avro test pilot, Wing Commander ‘Roly’ Falk stole the show on the first three days by completing a barrel roll in the massive V-wing bomber!
The aircraft was the second production Vulcan B.1, XA890. “Falk’s display amazed the crowds and displayed the Vulcan’s fighter-like handling” noted amazed onlookers.
…And here’s the elegant segue to the parish of exchanges. The pilot of the Vulcan in that awesome video, Wing Commander ‘Roly’ Falk was the father of bourse — indeed Bourse Consult — veteran John Falk…(whose full-time retirement we mentioned in EI 2618).
